About the Author

Thomas L. Friedman is a globally recognized author, reporter, and columnist, celebrated for his insightful analysis of current affairs. He has won three Pulitzer Prizes and penned several bestselling books, including  From Beirut to Jerusalem  and  The World Is Flat.

 

Born in Minneapolis in 1953, Friedman grew up in the suburb of St. Louis Park. He graduated from Brandeis University in 1975 with a degree in Mediterranean studies and earned an M.Phil. in modern Middle East studies from Oxford as a Marshall Scholar. After starting his career at United Press International, he joined The New York Times, where he has worked since, covering major global events and winning Pulitzer Prizes in 1983, 1988, and 2002 for his international reporting and columns on September 11th.

 

Friedman's debut book,  From Beirut to Jerusalem , won the National Book Award in 1989. His second work,  The Lexus and the Olive Tree  (1999), explored globalization and earned the Overseas Press Club Award. In 2005,  The World Is Flat  became a  Number 1 New York Times bestseller and won the Financial Times/Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award. Its success has led to over 4 million copies sold in 37 languages.

 

He followed with  Hot, Flat, and Crowded  (2008) and  That Used to Be Us  (2011), co-written with Michael Mandelbaum. His latest book,  Thank You for Being Late  (2016), delves into navigating the rapid changes of our era.

 

Friedman resides in Bethesda, Maryland, with his family.
